Research shows that vaping is the most effective tool to help quit smoking In recent years, it seems like not a day goes past without a news headline extolling the benefits of vaping for smokers who want to quit. With a myriad of expensive products on the market, ranging from inhalers and patches to prescription medications and hypnosis, it has traditionally been a bewildering and costly exercise to give up cigarettes. Research published this week, however, has shown that vaping is the most efficient and effective way to help smokers give up their harmful addiction for good.
The study, which monitored the outcomes of approximately 900 people, was led by a team at Queen Mary University in London and published in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine. It was designed as a randomised control study, in which people were given either nicotine alternatives or vaping products, and the participants had all been smokers for a significant period. At the conclusion of the trial, researchers discovered that 18% of smokers who had switched to vaping had successfully quit, whereas less than 10% of those using other therapies had done so. For people considering giving up smoking, this result indicates that vaping products could make the process smoother and more efficient.
